Yvette Adams is a serial entrepreneur having started 6 businesses from scratch, the first a newspaper when she was just 17, and two of which she has since sold. She is the founder and co-owner of The Creative Collective, The Training Collective and awardshub.com. Her first ‘proper job’ was working for the New Zealand Government’s sports Department as a communications assistant which saw her run the National Sports Journalism Awards for New Zealand over a 3 year period, and regularly liaise with Sir Edmund Hillary.
She lived and worked around the world for a seven year stint from 1998 to 2004, mainly working as a journalist and editor for online portals, magazines and newspapers, including a year long travel writing round-the-world assignment. In between travel stints, she consulted numerous businesses in New Zealand, the UK, the US and Australia on their marketing strategies, and has built many websites and assisted business owners to commercialise their products and business ideas.
In 2004 she settled in Australia and in 2007, just 7 weeks after the birth of her second child launched The Creative Collective. In 2014 she split the company in two, and established The Training Collective who have trained thousands of people with essential digital skills through both online and in person mediums. Through just one of the programs – the 12 week online program called Get Up To Speed – she has helped over 700 people across Australia and New Zealand gain essential digital skills and awareness making a a real impact on many people’s lives including many who are generally disadvantaged from accessing quality training such as this including the elderly, disabled, remote and rural based people, the unemployed, parents of young children and more. Her company The Training Collective won the Access and Digital Skills Category at the Australia New Zealand Internet Awards in 2014 for their work with this program.
Yvette is regularly called on as a media commentator on online and technology related topics and as a keynote speaker, facilitator and MC for events all over Asia Pacific.
Her level of expertise has been recognised by several Government departments and has seen The Creative Collective win multiple tenders on behalf of organisations such as AusIndustry, Sunshine Coast Council and DEEDI. She is on the committee of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) Sunshine Coast, the expert panel of the Australian Institute of Company Directors ‘Directing Growth’ program and is also a member of the Sunshine Coast Council’s Knowledge & Service Based industries task force.
She published her second book “No Kidding! Why our kids know more about technology than us and what we can do about it” in 2014 which you can read more about at www.nokidding.com.au. The book is distributed through book stores around Australia and in multiple formats online. It achieved extensive media coverage, including appearances on National TV shows ABC News & the Today Show positioning Yvette as an expert on kids and technology.
A multi-award winning business woman, she won the ICT Woman of the Year at the iAwards – Australia’s most prestigious national IT awards, the Commonwealth Bank Business Owner of the Year at the Telstra Business Women’s Awards, Queensland in 2010 against 4200 applicants and in 2014 received a letter from the Queensland Government’s Minister for the Department of Science, Information Technology, Innovation and the Arts for making a significant contribution to science and innovation in Queensland. As such she’ll be included on the department’s Queensland Science and Innovation Champion Hall of Fame.
