It’s already been called the ‘entrepreneurial capital’ of Australia by leading social commentator Bernard Salt, and now the Sunshine Coast is fast becoming the ‘cleantech capital’ of Australia too.
On 24 October, Mayor Mark Jamieson officially launched the National Clean Technologies Conference & Exhibition at the Innovation Centre. The conference will take place from 29 – 31 May 2019 at The Events Centre in Caloundra, with the Sunshine Coast Council as Principal Event Partner.
Building on the success of The Cleantech Effect event, run by the Sunshine Coast Council in 2016 and 2017, the National Clean Technologies Conference & Exhibition is expected to be bigger than ever in 2019. The three-day conference and exhibition — with more than 70 keynote and industry speakers and 50 exhibitors — will attract more than 250 delegates from across Australia.
Conference director Peta Moore of Nectar Creative Communications says the conference and adjoining exhibition will encompass all clean technology growth areas including energy, waste, water, built environment and transport, and provide a forum for the Australian cleantech community to focus on ‘national’ issues and latest developments as well as the opportunity to come together to network, learn and do business. The event will play an important role in bringing together all the key stakeholders across the entire industry to drive growth, innovation and investment. …
“The cleantech industry has become much more mature, robust and effective in recent years, and we’re excited to partner with the Sunshine Coast Council and the existing and very strong Cleantech industry on the Sunshine Coast to hold this event. Together we’re empowering more people and businesses, by giving them the latest information and cleantech solutions, so they save energy, water, waste and money,” says Moore.
Mayor Mark Jamieson says that the Sunshine Coast is leading the way nationally when it comes to clean technology.
“The Sunshine Coast aims to be Australia’s most sustainable region — healthy, smart, creative,” Mayor Jamieson said.
“We already have one of the highest concentrations of clean technology businesses in the country and as a council are driving sustainability in our region and beyond.
“This makes the Sunshine Coast the perfect location for the National Clean Technologies Conference & Exhibition.
“I invite people from across the industry — innovators, entrepreneurs, researchers, investors and industry-leading businesses — to visit our region and to experience our cleantech industry for themselves.
“The Sunshine Coast is brimming with opportunity. Our cleantech industry employs nearly 1,770 people and contributes an estimated A$212 million to our local economy annually. We have the only dedicated and active cleantech association and the industry is set to grow. … We’re taking a nation-leading position by installing Australia’s first high-tech, underground automated waste collection system in the new Maroochydore City Centre.
“We are the first local government in Australia to offset its entire electricity consumption, across all its facilities and operations, from renewable energy generated at the Sunshine Coast Solar Farm, and we have a target to become a zero-net emissions organisation by 2041. To share what we’re doing and stimulate important conversations, we’re now hosting national events and are fast becoming known as the ‘Cleantech Capital of Australia’.”
To ensure Clean Technologies is a national conversation, organisers are now calling for people interested in speaking at the event to submit an abstract. If you have a new solution to announce, project success to feature or company case study to share with the Australian Cleantech community go to https://nctce.com.au/conference/call-for-papers/. Submissions close Friday 30 November 2018. A limited number of early bird tickets are now also available at https://nctce.com.au/.
