Immanuel Lutheran Church

New Church Brand

Immanuel Lutheran Church based in Buderim, Sunshine Coast pride themselves on being a Church that is for everyone — whether young or old; single, a couple, a family; curious about Jesus or a long time follower.

The church offers a contemporary, yet deep, Christian way of life. Unlike a modern, flashy ‘new age’ church, Immanuel is more about authenticity, real connection, and deep meaning and purpose.

The original church was set up in 1961 on Hinkler Parade at Maroochydore, and moved to its current location in Buderim in 1998 — an impressive site that goes up the hill with the church at the top. Also on site is a Lutheran P–12 College, home to over 1000 pupils, and an aged-care living facility known as “The Gardens,” giving the entire site a multigenerational faith community who strive to interact with each other. The College (originally founded as a Primary School only) was in fact the first Christian school to be opened on the Sunshine Coast. Historically the school community was comprised of families from the church, though this has now shifted, with more than 50% of the families having no day-to-day Christian faith.

Immanuel does not see itself as a building or location, but the church is the people. The Sunday service is not where things start and stop, but rather a focal point for the people to be strengthened and supported to live out their week.

The church approached us for a new church brand, to modernise their current brand and communicate ‘togetherness’, a strong value of Immanuel. Because of the need to have a broad intergenerational appeal, the overall look and feel needed to show the church as one entity visually.

Their existing church brand had been around for around 10 years but there was no record of how it came to be, or what its elements mean. The client also had a lot of marketing items using different styles that may have diminished the brand over time.

The job for us therefore was to standardise, modernise, and unify the assets to create a new harmonious visual brand.

A couple of sub-brands that we can experiment with to show that unity are ‘Immanuel Youth’ (a sub-group particularly focussed on young people) and ‘Space for Grace’ (a contemplative prayer event).

Colour wise we needed to maintain a strong link to the existing church branding of the College of Blue, Gold (Yellow) and White.

We were pleased to develop the tag line ‘For Everyone, For You’ and the final church brand which can be seen below, as well as a comprehensive brand style guide.

The client has since rolled the new brand out into a new website, street signage, email signatures. letterheads, social media channels, brochures and live stream graphics, leaning on the brand style guide we also equipped them with.
