If you are a business owner, marketing manager or manage any businesses on social media and haven’t heard of Canva, then do yourself a favour and keep reading!
It’s time you learnt about the Aussie start-up taking the world by storm.
Canva is an online graphics platform that combines a drag-and-drop design tool with a stock library of over 1 million photographs, illustrations and imagery. The platform features hundreds of professional templates to create social media graphics, presentations, flyers, posters, invitations and so much more that will make your business look professional on social media and other digital channels, even if you don’t have any graphic design experience!
Professionals alike are using Canva to quickly and easily produce multiple size formats and custom dimension graphics.
You would think that as one of those professionals providing graphic design services, that our business would somehow have our nose out of joint with the emergence of an easy-to-use, turn-anyone-into-a graphic-designer platform that could potentially do graphic designers out of work! But we’re embracing the new technology and encouraging our clients to as well.
What we’re loving about Canva is that business owners, social media managers and marketing coordinators are empowered to create beautiful graphics for their business. And they’re that professional that the public would presume they’ve had the whipped up by a graphic designer. What businesses used to spend on graphic design fees can now be channeled into other areas. So from an agency perspective, clients are actually in a position to spend more with us where it counts – digital marketing.
Despite not doing it exclusivesly, I still call myself a graphic designer and like to keep my skills fresh and up to date. But trust me, with a suite of graphic design programs on my trusty mac, I still sometimes opt to use Canva because it’s that easy to use. And as a graphic designer, I’ve also been caught out commenting on design work that I admired, later to find out that it was indeed created by a non-designer using Canva!
Of course, I’ve been a little hasty in my headline, that graphic designers are ‘almost redundant’ but the truth is that the ante has been upped! There’s always going to be a time and place for professional design work – such as branding, conceptual work or roll-out of multi-faceted campaign graphics. But for everything else, there’s Canva.
