The accolades don’t stop for Maroochydore Super-Mum Yvette Adams, the founder and director of creative services agency, The Creative Collective.
After having been named as a finalist in the Sunshine Coast Business Womens Awards in the Young Entrepreneur category and the Australian Home Based Business Awards Professional Services category, Adams was notified on Friday that she has been named as a finalist in the 2007 Queensland Small Business Champions Awards.
A finalist in two categories, the Young Small Business Champion Entrepreneur and the Professional – Services categories, Adams says this may well be her biggest accolade yet.
“Although each and every award I am nominated for as a finalist is a tremendous honour for me and everyone involved in my company, I am particularly chuffed with this one given that it is taken from a Queensland-wide catchment and not just based on the narrow criteria of being a home based business, but actually draws on all of Queensland’s small business community.
“It’s also supported by some very influential sponsors in the form of Commonwealth Bank, the Australian Government’s Department of Industry Tourism and Resources, CPA Accountants, Quicklbooks, Fairfax and more and there are major prizes up for grabs so I will be beside myself with anticipation on the night.”
In 2000-01 there were 292 406 small businesses in Queensland and 1,505,924 small businesses in Australia. Small business refers to those businesses whose total income or expenses were between $10,000 and $5m in the financial year.
Adams has been offering website development, design, photography, pr and marketing services as a freelancer since arriving to the Sunshine Coast in October 2004, but only registered her company in November 2006. She now contracts around 20 people nationwide and internationally to service a growing number of clients from a wide variety of industries, and does so from a home based office juggled around the commitments of her two small children Rio (3) and Matisse (7 months).
The Creative Collective represents her third start-up company at only age 30. All have been started with no money down. The awards ceremony will be held on Saturday 22 September at the Sofitel Hotel in Brisbane.
